two-wheeled thoughts: Willie Weir on portaging

two-wheeled thoughts

A bicycle is freedom when you’re riding it; it’s a millstone when you’re not.

–Willie Weir, “Back Roads and Back Waters,” India section, Spokesongs

Portaging one’s bicycle is always a drag. Then again, some of us choose to race cyclocross. πŸ™‚

  1. I need to get a bike. I miss riding, but I hate riding in the city. And London kinda intimidates me. The drivers are crazy. They don’t stop at all for pedestrians. They don’t even slow down.

    • You SHOULD get a bike, indeed! πŸ™‚ But big cities are scary. Maybe you could start by visiting a local bike shop and talking with the staff about what to do to make it safer – I’m not familiar with London to give advice, but they should be. Where to ride, when to ride, who to ride with, what local customs to observe to help keep you safe and boost your confidence. Good luck! Ride a bike!
