I’m getting ambitious and trying to *really* join the reading blog community by entering a challenge hosted (appropriately) at One Person’s Journey Through a World of Books. The idea is to read a book set in each of the 50 states, over the course of all of 2011, with bonus points for additional locations. I don’t think the challenge itself will be too hard; I do a lot of reading. Of course I might have to do some purposeful seeking out of my missing locations towards the end of the year; but that’s part of what’s curious about this challenge. I’m interested to see how randomly scattered the books I read are before making any special effort.
My efforts will be kept track of (and herein lies the challenging part, I suspect) at this map:
So you can keep track of me here. The challenge doesn’t start til Jan. 1, so don’t be anxious that the map is empty so far, k? π And feel free to join us. I think it’ll be fun!

Cool idea! Let me know if you need a hint for North Dakota…. I won’t say anything now in case you’d rather discover things more serendipitously.
You can mark Maine on your map if you’ve read Sarah Graves.
I found one of hers when we were at a cousin’s place in Maine, & consumed it in two days. I like her, with the limits that you mentioned, and I think she does the cozy pretty nicely.
Good tip Karen – but it doesn’t count til 2011! I’ll keep Graves in mind.
Thanks Amy – I will indeed try the serendipitous route first but ND could be a challenge. Can’t think of anything I’ve read from there off the top. I just thought of one I recommend for Nebraska: Old Jules by Mari Sandoz; but since I’ve read it already I think I ought to search another out…
I’m thinking a book in each of the 50 states could be fun too. π
go for it! you don’t have to blog. can make a google map and put it in a comment to the original challenger (link above). please join me.

I am finally getting around to see everyone posts. Hope you have fun with this challenge! I put my first peg on the map today for Georgia!
Have fun with this and I think we can peak at each others maps if we are stumped on what to read for certain states π
Thanks Sheila!
