I know someone who forgot how to ride a bike. She tried it as an adult and couldn’t remember. I never saw her try, but I’ve heard her descriptions. How does one forget?
It happens. I see it all the time. I used to sell bikes for a living, and a great many of the people who came in as adults not having ridden since children struggled to stay upright. –shakes head–
Really. I haven’t been on a bike for a few years now–no place to ride in cities–maybe I should test this theory.
Ha! 🙂 I wish you luck! The adage about not ever forgetting to ride a bike seems to have been proven untrue by all my experience; but I can’t quite understand… hopefully at least it’ll be easier to relearn for those folks.
I know my friend gave up since she had a pretty nasty incident with a sidewalk and fence. I think the fence won, sidewalk was a close second.

When ol’ Sam was learning, remember that ALL adults were learning for the first time – imagine what a leap of faith that was! If I remember correctly, the context for this quote is that he did try, and failed a few too many times to appreciate the experience.
If I misremember and actually made that up, at least it’s an instructive story.
And back when he was learning, bicycles were more difficult to ride by far, too! Ordinaries, and all that.
