Teaser Tuesdays: Wolves of the Calla by Stephen King

Hooray for Stephen King as usual! This is a long one, which I appreciate, as I get to lose myself in the Outworld of this novel, the fifth in the Dark Tower series.

For our teaser today: I was struck by these lines.

“But if you get her killed, Roland.. you’ll take my curse with her when you leave the calla, if you do, no matter how many children you save.”

Roland, who had been cursed before, nodded.

Doesn’t bode particularly well, does it?

  1. The fifth book was okay. I liked the first four the best, though. In my opinion, the series fell apart with books six and seven. Have you finished the other two? I’d love to know what you think. The Dark Tower is a pretty polarizing series. People seem to either really love or really hate the way it ended.

    • You know, they’re all different. I really liked that The Drawing of the Three covered so many different worlds; I liked the conflicts in The Waste Lands; I thought The Gunslinger paled slightly by comparison (although it was great!) and Wizard and Glass might have been a favorite – by a hair – for all it revealed about Roland and his past & vulnerabilities. Wolves was a great story but digressed from the path of our ka-tet, and I think that counts against it somewhat. I’m now in Song of Susannah and I admit I miss the group being together; this Mia person is losing me just a little bit. We shall see. I have the final book standing by. Of course you’ll hear all about my love-or-hate!
